There are many different types of love in the world. There is familial love which is the love that is experienced in families. There is a mother’s love, love that is between a mother and her child. And there is also love between animals. There are many different types of love and seeing as love cannot be described in words alone it has become a science that is studied by many. Each love is a result of a chemical that the body produces and sends out that allows a person or animal to tell the difference between different types of love.

Animals use pheromones to communicate with one another. Some animals may leave theiranimal-love-photos-02 scent in order to mark their territory or to attract eligible mates. More often than not they will use smell in order to find prey and to identify other animals. For example, snakes use their tongues to collect pheromones in the air of their prey. They have receptors in the roof of their mouths that allow the snake to taste and smell the pheromones. According to Nature Works “some animals use scent to identify members of their family.” For instance, the mule deer has scent glands on its hind legs and young deer will recognize their mothers by smelling those glands.

Oxytocin is important for a pregnant woman since it is partially accountable for the nourishment and the cuddling she will give to her child. Depending on the levels of Oxytocin created by the brain will affect the amount of attention each new mother will give to her baby. The first trimester of the pregnancy is considered to be the most vital due to higher levels of the hormone during the period meaning that there would be more bonding and affection after the birth.

Lastly, familial love. As humans they experience family love before they experience any other form of love. This love contains both intimacy as well as commitment. According to Merriam-Webster intimacy is “something of a personal or private nature” meaning that humans feel warmth and they want to be with their family. Humans want to share experiences with one another and make each other happy. Additionally, commitment is when someone makes the decision to love those in their family and plan to maintain that love.

It isn’t easy to describe any type of love, even psychologists don’t agree on what love is. However, one psychologist may say love is a force of nature while, another may say love is a movement, developing secure attachments to someone. No matter how they look at it, love exists in different forms, and it is created by who we love.
